Open call International Digital Storytelling Festival
We celebrate the power of stories. We celebrate the art of storytelling

We live our lives through stories. We make sense of the world through the stories we share. Some of these stories allow us to create bonds, others make us aware of our diversity. Some stories force us to address social issues that may be outside our individual experience, but which cause us to question what it means to be human and what it means to share our planet with others.

From 27-29 September, the 1st International Digital Storytelling Festival will be held in Zakynthos, thanks to the collaboration of three local universities (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of the Aegean and Ionian University) supported by a large international network of organisations, including Melting Pro.

The Festival celebrates the power of stories and the art of digital storytelling.
The global Digital Storytelling community has been working on stories for almost forty years. Members of this community promote social justice and raise awareness on issues of global concern, hoping to contribute to a world of respect and equality for all, regardless of gender, race, religion or belief, age or ability. As part of the Festival, a CALL has been opened inviting storytellers to submit digital stories that can raise discussions on important topics in relation to the following areas: culture; education; environment; health; society; science and research.

For each theme, ten digital stories will be selected to be screened during the Festival. These stories will be selected by the Festival Committee (an international team including Digital Storytelling experts and artists) according to the principles of inclusion of age, gender, geographical region and language.

In addition, for each theme, the Festival Committee will select a representative digital story to be screened at the end of the festival to draw attention to a global issue related to the theme. This story will also be awarded the Festival Prize for this theme. During the Festival, the screening of these stories will be accompanied by a panel discussion on the theme.
